Reading
with your child is the most important gift that you can give.
We all love our children more than anything in the world.
In their first few years, we feed them so they grow. We bring them
to the doctor so they are healthy.
We strap them in car seats to keep them safe. By far, the most important
accomplishment during the first years of life is the growth of the
mind and spirit. This is the time that your child learns to love,
trust, speak and listen.
It is very difficult to learn or teach these traits ever again after
a child turns two years old. Trusting, singing, laughing and language
are the most important things in a young child's life.
Every day, make a quiet restful place to read for twenty minutes.
With your child on your lap, read a book aloud. It costs nothing but
twenty minutes and a library card.
